Medicar European Private Medical Transport was established in 1998 to aid Medical Assistance Companies, where alternatives were required to air repatriation. With over thirty years repatriation experience in overseas road ambulance logistics, we pride ourselves with being able to find solutions to problems both medical and technical by applying lateral thoughts followed by decisive actions culminating in excellent results.
Medicar European are specialists in the transport of sick and injured patients over very long distances, ambulances are designed and built by us to provide a quiet, comfortable and secure journey without the compromise of clinical care.
Medicar European clients include most of the major medical assistance companies, the NHS & Primary Care Trusts, private and corporate companies, private individuals, VIP’s, hospitals and UK and European government agencies.
Medicar European’s location between Ashford and Folkestone in Kent is only 10 minutes (12K) from the Channel Tunnel and 20 minutes (32K) from the Channel Ports, this allows us to offer rapid crossing to mainland Europe and to be almost anywhere in Europe within 24 hours of receiving confirmation of a repatriation.
Medicar European is one of only two private ambulance companies to hold an account with Eurotunnel, allowing us to travel Flexi-plus with priority loading, this reduces waiting times to the minimum necessary for a quick and comfortable repatriation of patients. We also have a very good working relationship with all the major ferry companies operating to and from mainland Europe and Ireland. Following the sad disaster of the Herald of Free Enterprise, it is no longer possible to travel on the car decks with a patient in an ambulance, only patients travelling in wheelchairs can travel by ferry (dispensation can be granted under special circumstances). We can call upon the ferry companies assistance and co-operation when this is deemed a necessary form of crossing for the patient.
All vehicles are medically equipped to a high standard, specialist equipment is supplemented depending upon the patient’s condition (Please read staff page.)
Our fast, comfortable Volkswagen Transporter T5 ambulances, based on Dutch and German examples are also equipped with self-loading stretchers, supplementary climate control, and are also fitted with the usual DVD/TV coolbox, etc.
Our high dependency ambulances are designed to accommodate a stretcher or an incubator, up to six seated patients or four seated and two wheelchair patients plus a crew of two. Power stretchers and stretcher lifts complemented by full medical facilities make these vehicles ideal for the transport of the more serious medical conditions and family units.
Pan-European breakdown assistance with the additional back up of ambulance companies based throughout the UK and Europe offer an extended peace of mind.
Medicar European have completed in excess of 1600 overseas road ambulance repatriations as well as thousands of airport retrievals, all documented.
Medicar European is a Care Quality Commission registered company.
